Meet the Experts

Ed Weisbart, MD, CPE, FAAFP

Dr. Weisbart is Chief Medical Officer, Medical Affairs, responsible for ensuring the clinical integrity of all Express Scripts, Inc. products and services including drug formulary development, clinically sound tools for managing pharmaceutical expense trends, clinical care management, and strategic analysis. He represents Express Scripts on medical policy issues to clients and other external groups, and speaks nationally about ambulatory medication safety and enhancing the value of the pharmacy benefit. He was recently published in Clinical Geriatrics on the issue of promoting the safer use of medication.

Before joining Express Scripts in 2003, Dr. Weisbart had over 17 years experience in medical management and consulting. He served as Medical Director for both Quality Improvement and Primary Care for the Dreyer Medical Group, a 130-physician multi-specialty practice in Chicago. Prior to that, Dr. Weisbart was the Chief Medical Officer for the Anchor Medical Group, associated with Rush Medical Center, a major integrated delivery system in Chicago. He focused on quality improvement, physician practice design, increasing physician productivity and efficiency, improving patient accessibility, and ensuring appropriate resource utilization.

Dr. Weisbart practiced as a provider of direct patient care from 1982 to 2002 in family practice and urgent care settings. He served as an Assistant Professor at Rush Medical College from 1982 to 2002 and currently practices as an attending physician at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis.

Dr. Weisbart received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Illinois Medical School, Chicago. He served his Family Practice residency at Michigan State University, where he also acted as Chief Resident and did a fellowship in Family Practice Faculty Development. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and as a Physician Executive from the Certifying Commission in Medical Management, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
