Atypical Antipsychotics

Atypical antipsychotics are generally used as first-line medications for the treatment of schizophrenia. They work by binding to certain receptors in the brain to help correct imbalances of certain neurotransmitters (chemicals that allow for communication between nerve cells) in the brain. Atypical antipsychotics may be associated with fewer side effects than the older, typical antipsychotics.
